Could we soon see NBA basketball return to Seattle? If Alex Rodriguez and his ownership group are successful purchasing the Minnesota Timberwolves, A-Rod has made it known that he wants to move the Minnesota franchise to Seattle.
This move makes sense on many fronts, as A-Rod spent the early part of his MLB career with the Seattle Mariners, and if your old enough to remember when A-Rod bolted from the Mariners to the Texas Rangers, he was viewed as Seattle’s #1 asshole, but that was two decades ago, people have moved on for the most part. Can’t ignore the fact that Seattle is a world class city that is one of the worlds largest tech hubs (Amazon, Microsoft, AT&T etc) with a deep basketball history that includes a championship banner from 1979, and the Sonic Boom Era of Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp, coupled with the brand new Climate Pledge Arena that will be the new home of the NHL expansion franchise Seattle Kraken this upcoming fall.

These are just some examples of many why NBA Basketball needs to be back in Seattle, unfortunately for Timberwolves fans there doesn’t seem to be a lot of support for the Timberwolves staying put, in the 30 plus years of existence the only highlight of the franchise was the Kevin Garnett and Stephon Marbury era in the mid-late 90’s which was very brief to say the least.
But the rumor to relocate the franchise is being met with pushback from former Timberwolves star Kevin Garnett. KG could reportedly be involved in the deal with Rodriguez and his ownership group should they get control of the organization in 2023. Garnett has wanted to keep the Timberwolves in Minnesota.
If A-Rod and his ownership group are granted ownership of the Timberwolves, one, I foresee Kevin Garnett immediately being out of the equation and two, it’ll be adios to the T-Wolves in Minny, and hello Pacific Northwest and the Sonics 2.0. What are your thoughts, do you see the Timberwolves relocating to Seattle? Go ahead and leave a comment below.

I for one would love to see Seattle get an NBA team back but not at the expense of them leaving Minnesota. I don’t have a connection with Minnesota at all but I’d rather see Seattle get an expansion team. I would rather start from scratch than inherit the team as it stands. I can remember the days of tge Glove Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp…those were the good old days with Kemp dunking on everyone!
I feel you on that Sydney. If the NBA will award an expansion franchise to Seattle, I would be in favor of that scenario rather than relocation of a current franchise. I was pissed when Seattle lost their team to OKC, at least Seattle got to keep their entire franchise history including the “Sonics” nickname. There is a rumor that Seattle and Las Vegas are two cities that the NBA has on their radar for expansion. However as I stated in the post, my bet is, if A-Rod and his group gain ownership, the T-Wolves days in Minny are likely numbered.
